Traditional Karelian arts

General information

The Republic of Karelia is the region in the North-West of Russia that preserves through centuries its own traditions, national language and culture. During the expeditions to Karelian villages researches collect folklore material, interpret it and share with those who learn history and language of native region, perform dances and songs, play musical instruments and sew clothes of the beginning of the XX century.

The Traditional Karelian Arts summer school focuses on Karelian history from ancient times to modern reality and such traditional aspects as dance, costume, folklore, musical instruments and architecture. As a result the participants will perform a Karelian dance during the closing ceremony of the summer school. It also includes master-classes and one-day boat trip to the Kizhi Island, the world famous open-air museum of wooden architecture.

Application deadline

Students are expected to apply max June  1, 2018, 12 PM CET but dates are very flexible and school can be organised during the whole summer depending on group.

You will be able to select from  36 possible cultural events in Petrozavodsk and the Republic of Karelia
